1. Yes, this produces sedative effect and lasts longer
1.1. If you mix too much of water, it can momentarily disturb sleep primarily because of tendency to urinate. so consume this atleast an hour before sleeping time ⏲️ 

2  The following explanation is from author's personal experience and so disclaimer (as this is author's personal experience, this is not worth fit for litigation, lawsuits, suing)

2.1. Carbonated water 💧 aka Carbonic acid is a weak acid and is a NEUTRALIZER. So it has tendency to reduce ACIDIC body to ALKALINE thereby creating SEDATIVE effect

2.2 Also Soda can produce different effects when combined with different materials 

2.2.1. Soda + Alcohol (Diuretic)->Mild sleep disturbance in later part of the 🌙

2.2.2. Soda + Lemon 🍋 (Citric Acid) + Glucose -> Reduce ill effects of chillies and has tendency to reduce stomach ailments. 
Lemon containing anti-oxidants can also make mind 🍺 alertful 

2.2.3. Soda + Cherry 🍒 (Melatonin)->Sedative effect and the effect has precedence over mild sleep disturbance if it happens
